I was cleaning out the “Notes” App on my phone yesterday and came across this journal entry from my time on sabbatical. I share it here, because wonder and gratitude are too often scarce:
I have had so many strange and troubling dreams on this trip, but as I wake the middle of the night I’m overwhelmed with gratitude. I am surrounded by a cloud of remarkable people with whom I speak and laugh every day. My children are a source of unending joy. I cherish my wife now more than ever. My family is a reservoir of strength and faith. There are many scary things in this world, but there are far more beauties than frights.
