A rebuke is a sharp command to stop sinning. With few exceptions, it’s only ok to rebuke those with whom we have some relational capital.
We earn relational capital by loving people well over a long time, showing consistency, faithfulness, and a desire to bless them.
We can rebuke friends, family, and those in authority under us. But we may not abuse the privilege.
The more we rebuke others, the more we deplete our relationships. Eventually, we may overtax our friendships and find ourselves alone.
