It can be a difficult thing to evaluate pastoral staff. On the one hand, we don’t want to solely evaluate our staff on the basis of their spirituality (they’re not monks). On the other hand, we don’t want to evaluate them solely on their management skills either (they’re not CEOs).

Once you consider the fact that–unlike everybody else–pastors are also part of the community they’re trying to lead, it becomes tricky to ascertain where their participation ends and their responsibilities begin.
