We live in a world of instant gratification. We’re frustrated when we have to wait. When we manage to go to the gym, we’re confused as to why we don’t instantly lose 5 pounds. We want everything faster. We expect immediate compensation.

Frequently, when we give we have the same mindset. Yet those of us who follow Jesus Christ understand that a life of giving repays. Generosity is a long-term investment by God’s people in God’s Kingdom. It begins with offering our hard-earned cash to the One who graciously enabled us to earn it in the first place. But there is no time limit on the dividends of obedient giving. God blesses us into the future every time we put him first.

Whoever is generous to the poor lends to the Lord, and he will repay him for his deed.

Proverbs 19.17
