Every revival in history has begun with a fresh reading of scripture in the common parlance of the people. People hear the Word, they read the Word, they discover the Word, they sing the Word, and the Word transforms them. But the Word, remember, is not the words of the text, but the Story of God as manifested in Christ Jesus. Jesus is the Word, and the words of the Bible are his chosen means of telling us about himself.
There are portions of this book that strongly affirm Jesus as the Word of God, ensuring that the church of the future is not so biblically minded she cannot be of any Christological good. However, the church of the future must also affirm the scriptures as the safeguard for our souls.
