The Bible puts great emphasis on giving to God and to people. Giving to God takes away the love of money and the crippling power it can have in our lives.
We need to recover an appreciation of gifts that aren’t merely useful, but also beautiful. Much like the woman who poured expensive perfume all over Jesus’ feet—an act of great waste, according to Judas—we must be willing to do beautiful, seemingly useless things out of devotion to God.
So give of your resources—big and small, seemingly useless or not. The gift isn’t what is important; it’s the devotion.
But Jesus replied, “Leave her alone. Why criticize her for doing such a good thing to me?
